It’s not easy to be the charismatic CEO with a ‘Business Proposal’ and travel through eras with a ‘Time Called You’ while healing people as ‘Dr. Romantic.’
Ahn Hyo Seop brought his characters to life with his versatility and bringing his own flare to the portrayal.
Born on April 17, 1995, he also goes by the name Paul Ahn. He debuted in the K-drama world with the short TV movie Splash Splash Live in 2015. As a rookie actor, he managed to grab attention even in minor roles.
Personally, I think he shines in complex sci-fi series, including ‘Abyss’ besides ‘A Time Called You.’ But in the past couple of years, Ahn Hyo Seop has become somewhat of a sensation with back-to-back hit dramas, including the trending Netflix series Business Proposal,’ which made the actor a household name.
Needless to say, he quickly amassed a massive female following and a considerable legion of fanboys.
To find a medium for interacting with his new fanbase, Ahn Hyo Seop opened his WeVerse account, a Korean forum where celebrities can connect with their followers.
During Ahn Hyo Seop’s first Weverse live streaming, fans were surprised to see that his PC settings were set to English. In Korea, almost everyone has their language setting on Hangul (Korea’s official language). But it makes sense because Ahn is actually a Canadian-Korean actor, which means that he can speak English. In fact, he often struggles to express himself in Hnagul and prefers English while writing.
Why Ahn Hyo Seop’s PC Language Setting Surprised Everyone?
Although Ahn Hyo Seop was born in Seoul, Korea, his family shifted to Toronto, Canada, when he was just seven years old.
Meanwhile, the Hallyu wave was growing stronger globally, and K-pop was getting wide recognition. As Ahn turned 17, he decided to pursue his dream of becoming a singer in Korea. At the same time, he also enrolled himself at Kookmin University to complete his graduation in International Business.
Due to his attractive looks, he was scouted by JYP Entertainment, after which he began training with third-gen K-Pop band GOT-7 (who are absolutely banging…highly recommended). But Ahn lacked in many ways, which stressed him out, and he decided to quit the training after three years.
Although he did debut with another agency, Starhaus Entertainment, with the group One o One, the band never caught flight due to years of inactivity, eventually leading to disbandment in 2019.
However, Ahn Hyo Seop was busy with several lead roles under his belt, as his acting skills were recognized by many producers. And now, he has become one of the most sought-after actors after eight years of hard work.
Recently, Ahn also conducted his Asia tour for a fan meet, where he also displayed his singing skills and other musical talents.
Then, for the first time, he went on Weverse for live streaming. There, he wrote, “In the middle of studying Weverse.”
Fans were amused at his naivety at first, which turned into utmost surprise when they noticed that his PC was set for the English language.
Netizens commented–
“He seems comfortable in English?”
“He is Canadian-Korean”.
“He is still a foreigner, after all.”
“He did mention his Korean used to be really bad when he first came to Korea and would only speak in English.”
“This is so cool. He must be way more fluent in English since he’s Canadian, but he doesn’t sound like a ‘gyopo’ when he speaks Korean. He sounds so natural!”
