The Ace Family comprises Austin, Catherine McBroom, and their three kids. The Youtubers create vlog-style videos that give viewers a glimpse into their personal lives. Their account has 18.5 million subscribers.
Catherine and Austin have 7.3 million and 6.5 million Instagram followers. Now, with online fame comes criticism, and the family has certainly had their share of it- ranging from legal issues to scamming allegations.
Ace Family’s Austin McBroom and Catherine McBroom have faced unending controversies. They were accused by their fans of scamming when they didn’t announce the winner of their 2023 Tesla Model X giveaway. Catherine also previously faced a lawsuit by TBL, a cosmetics company, for trying to take over 1212 Gateway. Also, the city of Beverly and LiveXLive sued Austin.
What’s the Ace Family Controversy
There has been no shortage of controversy for the Ace Family. The latest is their fans accusing them of scamming or not being transparent. Austin McBroom and Catherine McBroom announced on June 11 that they would give away Catherine’s Tesla Model X car.
To participate in the giveaway, fans had to download the Kick app, follow them there, and tag two friends in the comments. The terms and conditions stated that the winner would be chosen randomly and announced by the month’s end.
But fans think the couple has rigged the giveaway and handpicked the winner instead of randomly drawing a name. In a livestream, Austin said:
“When it came to picking out the Tesla winner, it was actually easier than we thought. The reason I say that is because we had like two other guys along with us looking for somebody who was really part of the Ace Family.”
He further emphasized that he wanted to ensure that the person selected was a part of the Ace Family and not someone who just wanted a free car. So they researched a lot and found the winner, who was one of the first fans to buy their Ace Family merch.
They did the livestream to announce the winner properly. But the name never got announced. This isn’t the only controversy of the Ace Family. They have a minefield of it.
The Controversies Surrounding the Ace Family
In October 2021, it was reported that Austin McBroom and Catherine McBroom no longer owned their $10.1 Los Angeles mansion. This was months after the family got a notice of default.
It said that they had three months, or 90 days, to be exact, to pay a lender to whom they owed $8.7 million. An online sales listing revealed that the house was auctioned with a starting bid of more than $9 million. But no one purchased it, and it was transferred to 5 Arch Funding Corporation, the beneficiary.
That’s not all. TBL- a cosmetics start-up, filed a lawsuit against Catherine, who, as per them, had signed a contract to create a premium skincare line called 1212 Gateway with ethically sourced substances.
She was supposed to be the brand’s face, while TBL would have handled the managerial side of things and other related operations. However, TBL alleged that Catherine tried to stage a takeover of the upcoming 1212 Gateway company’s management with her friends and family.
The cosmetic company also accused the YouTuber of threatening to dissolve 1212 Gateway in a court filing. Also, she apparently changed all the passwords to all of the accounts of 1212 Gateway in March.
Austin McBroom has faced his fair share of troubles as well. LiveXLive sued his company, SGP (Simply Greatest Productions), and him because his online celebrity boxing matches didn’t pan out how they had hoped.
They had hoped the event would pull in anywhere between $200 to $500 million in profit. But the opposite happened, and LiveXLive suffered a tonne of losses. They alleged that McBrooms had sold people lies regarding the boxing event.
SGP sued them in return for fraud, breach of contract, etc., and in response, LiveXLive filed a return suit for $100 million in damages. Other legal cases include Austin getting sued by the city of Beverly Hills in 2021 for hosting an unsanctioned parade.
Hundreds of people showed up as it was heavily advertised on social media. The chaotic event resulted in Rodeo Drive getting shut down between the hours of 4:50 pm and 6:19 pm.
The city sought $200,000 in damages since the entire event was unsanctioned. After all, he and Hasan hadn’t applied for a permit to host the parade within the city limits. The couple, individually or together, hasn’t addressed any of the legal issues.
What are your thoughts on all the legal issues the Ace Family is facing? Do you think Austin and Catherine McBroom are scammers?
