So…did Riri Williams really make a deal with Mephisto? Oh yeah. She absolutely did, and it’s already turning into one of the most unsettling moments in the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe (apart from this stupid show).
In the finale of Ironheart, Riri defeats her enemies, outsmarts Parker Robbins (aka The Hood), and walks away with a moral victory. At least, that’s how it looks at first. But then she meets a mysterious, silver-tongued man with a devilish grin. Mephisto — Marvel’s long-whispered version of the devil himself, played by none other than Sacha Baron Cohen.
Mephisto doesn’t offer a formal deal, no contracts, no glowing sigils. He just talks to Riri. Reads her mind. Knows what she wants, and what she wants is Natalie, her best friend, who died in a drive-by shooting.
The friend she tried to preserve with AI tech and then lost when her magic-fueled armor zapped the simulation out of existence. Riri has been carrying that grief like a weight all season. And now she finally snaps.
Moments after the conversation with Mephisto, Riri walks into her garage, and there’s Natalie. Flesh and blood. Not an AI. Not a memory. She’s alive, clueless about anything that happened. Sounds like a win, right? Not quite.
The camera lingers on Riri’s arm as dark, branching scars creep across her skin — the same scars that marked those who wore Mephisto’s cursed cloak. It’s the price. The catch. Because, duh, it’s Mephisto. You don’t get your heart’s desire from Marvel’s devil without paying for it in soul fragments or sanity points.
Now the whole internet is freaking out.
Did she really do it? Yes. Did she know what it would cost? Probably not. But that’s how these deals work. Mephisto doesn’t show up unless he sees an opportunity and Riri, heartbroken and guilt-ridden, was an easy target.
This changes everything. Because Mephisto, now officially introduced in the MCU, isn’t just a one-and-done villain. He’s the kind of character who haunts the background of storylines, corrupting heroes from the inside out. He’s tangled with Spider-Man, the Fantastic Four, even Doctor Doom in the comics. Some fans are speculating that he wants Riri to build something for Doom himself. Others think this was just his opening move in a larger cosmic game.
The real sting, though, is emotional. Riri brought Natalie back, but not Gary, her stepdad. Her mom is probably going to have questions, and the rift in their relationship might only get wider. That’s the thing about wishes granted by demons — they tend to come with more problems than solutions.
Then there’s the bigger fear: If Mephisto can bring someone back from the dead just because, what happens to the stakes in the MCU? (They’re already pretty bad now, but still…)
Death used to matter. Now it might just be a conversation and a handshake away from being reversed. That breaks the universe if it becomes a trend.
So yes, Riri really did it. She brought her friend back. But what she gave up in return might unravel her from the inside. Honestly, it’s hard not to relate. We’ve all lost someone we wish we could bring back, no matter the cost. But would we really shake hands with the devil to do it?
That’s the kind of question Marvel just dropped in our laps.
To be honest, this is not my kind of show.
If this story made you pause, raise an eyebrow, or just feel something. That’s the whole point.
But where I really have fun and put my thoughts and opinions out is when I dig up strange, overlooked news from around the world every single day. Not the loud headlines… the stuff that slips through the cracks.
So if my words hit home or at least hit somewhere, consider sticking around.
