In a country where many people struggle to make ends meet, one woman’s extravagant celebration for her dog’s birthday has left jaws dropping.
Spending a whopping ₹5 lakh (approximately $6,000), she threw a bash that could rival a wedding.
From a designer cake worth ₹40,000 to a guest list of over 300 people, the event was nothing short of luxurious.
The woman, Sapna Sona, hails from Jamshedpur in Jharkhand. She organized this lavish party for her six-year-old Rottweiler, Rose.
The celebration included live music, a DJ, and a grand entry for Rose, accompanied by drums and fireworks. Guests were treated to a sumptuous menu featuring starters, main courses, soft drinks, coffee, ice cream, and sweets.
Sapna, a single mother, considers Rose her daughter and shares a profound emotional bond with her. She mentioned that she brought Rose home when she was just six months old and has been celebrating her birthdays ever since.
Beyond the opulence, Sapna uses these occasions to give back to the community. This year, she installed 20 solar street lights in a local settlement and plans to undertake more service projects, including work at the city’s cremation grounds.
Social Media and Mixed Reactions
Photos and videos of the event quickly went viral, sparking a heated debate online.
Some praised her for treating her dog with such love and devotion.
“If you’ve got the money, why not?” one commenter wrote.
Others, however, were less impressed, criticizing the extravagance in a country where economic disparity remains a pressing issue.
“This is tone-deaf,” one user commented on Twitter.
“Millions in India can’t afford basic necessities, and here’s someone throwing a party like this for a dog.”
This isn’t the first time pet pampering has grabbed headlines.
Across the globe, people are spending more on their furry companions, treating them as full-fledged members of the family.
In India, where pet ownership is on the rise, lavish spending on pets is becoming a trend, particularly among the affluent.
But stories like this also highlight the stark contrast between wealth and poverty in countries with growing inequality. While it’s her money to spend, the display of such luxury can feel jarring in a society where many are still striving for basic living standards.
So, what do you think?
Is this an example of pure, unconditional love for a pet, or does it cross the line into unnecessary extravagance?
