Ever since the climactic events of “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness,” fans have been left in suspense over Wanda Maximoff’s fate.

The film hinted at her demise in the collapsing temple of the Darkhold, but hope lingered for her return. The release of the trailer for “Agatha All Along” on Disney+ seems to have finally put those hopes to rest.

Marvel Studios confirms that Wanda Maximoff is dead in the trailer for “Agatha All Along.” The first glimpse of the upcoming series reveals key details that leave little doubt about the Scarlet Witch’s fate.

Did the Scarlet Witch truly meet her end, or is there more to her story?

In “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness,” Elizabeth Olsen’s character appears to sacrifice herself by bringing down Mount Wundagore to put an end to her chaotic magic. Fans speculated and theorized, clinging to the possibility of her survival. However, the new trailer for “Agatha All Along” addresses this head-on. Wanda’s name, scrawled in red ink on a notepad next to the date October 13, is a stark indicator. Aubrey Plazaโ€™s character cryptically states, “That witch is gone, leaving you trapped in her distorted spell.” This line confirms what many feared: Wanda Maximoff is indeed considered dead in the MCU.

The trailer for “Agatha All Along” is packed with intriguing hints and nods to past events. Kathryn Hahnโ€™s Agatha Harkness, who viewers last saw in “WandaVision,” appears to be piecing together the mystery surrounding Wanda’s death.

Early in the trailer, Agatha examines a body with blackened fingers, reminiscent of Wanda’s appearance after her encounter with the Darkhold.

The scene is charged with tension as Agatha picks up a library card marked with several dates, including October 13, and the name “W. Maximoff,” solidifying the belief that Wanda perished in the temple collapse.

But the trailer isnโ€™t just about confirming Wanda’s death. It also hints at potential pathways for her return, keeping the door open for the beloved character.

Agatha’s plan to walk the Witches’ Road, a concept from James Robinson’s 2016 “Scarlet Witch” comic run, introduces a glimmer of hope. This mystical pathway, accessible only to magic wielders, is fraught with dangers and might be a route to bringing Wanda back.

The fact that Wanda Maximoff’s body wasn’t shown post-collapse bolsters the notion that her death might not be as final as it seems. In film and television, if a character’s death isnโ€™t explicitly depicted, it often leaves room for their return.

Wanda, with her immense power, could have easily teleported away or protected herself with a magical shield.

Many also feel that Scarlet Witch’s death is narratively unsatisfying. Her arc had taken a dark turn in “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness,” but it seemed abrupt and deprived her of a proper redemption. Fans expected a more heroic resolution for a character who had endured so much.

Could Wanda Return In Agatha All Along?

As fans of comic-book movies know, characters rarely stay dead for long. The confirmation of Wanda’s death in “Agatha All Along” doesn’t rule out her return. The big question is how and when she might come back.

The MCU’s multiverse opens endless possibilities, including the appearance of variants of Wanda from different universes. Elizabeth Olsen could reprise her role in multiple forms, adding depth and variety to her character’s legacy.

Speculation about Wanda’s potential return is fueled by hints from “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.” The red flash of light seen when Mount Wundagore collapsed suggested she might have used her magic to escape.

Additionally, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige hinted at her survival in a 2022 interview, raising questions about her true fate.

Moreover, “WandaVision” star Asif Ali’s slip in December 2023, confirming Wanda’s appearance in Agatha’s solo series, adds another layer of intrigue. Whether or not Wanda physically returns, her presence and influence will undoubtedly be felt in “Agatha All Along” as Agatha seeks to reclaim her power.

So, what do you think? Is this really the end of the Scarlet Witch, or could Agatha’s journey down the Witches’ Road hold the key to Wanda’s resurrection?

“Agatha All Along” is set to premiere with two episodes on Disney+ starting September 18.
