Season 12 of Chicago Fire has premiered, and it’s time to say goodbye to old faces. The internet is abuzz with the news of the two departed veterans, especially one who has been with the show since season 3.

But who are these 2 actors who left the show? Also, how did Chicago Fire handle their goodbyes to the viewers and the rest of the cast?

Two notable departures have occurred in Chicago Fire Season 12. Sylvie Brett, portrayed by Kara Killmer, is saying goodbye after ten seasons. Brett and Matthew Casey are set to start their married life in Portland. Additionally, firefighter Blake Gallo, played by Alberto Rosende, bid farewell as he moved to Michigan to reunite with his family and join the Detroit Fire Department.

In a surprising turn of events, Sylvie Brett, one of Chicago Fire’s beloved characters portrayed by Kara Killmer, is bidding farewell to the show after an impressive ten-season run.

The Season 12 premiere, titled “Barely Gone,” revealed Brett’s decision to leave Chicago and embark on a new journey, especially after accepting Matthew Casey’s heartfelt proposal.

The couple plans to start their married life together in Portland, marking a significant chapter in Brett’s character arc.

During a discussion about the upcoming wedding with Mouch (Christian Stolte) and Violet (Hanako Greensmith), Brett explained her speedy departure from the Windy City.

She emphasized that after years of captivating “will-they-won’t-they” chemistry with Casey, the time had come for them to be together full-time.

As Sylvie Brett departs, she won’t be alone. Season 11 concluded with Brett becoming the legal guardian of baby Julia. This new responsibility adds another layer of complexity to her character’s journey, making her exit all the more impactful.

Kara Killmer, who has portrayed Brett since Season 3, has expressed her deep connection to both the city of Chicago and the series itself.

In a heartfelt Instagram post in November 2023, she shared early photos from her time in the city and reminisced about her first experiences with the Chicago Fire Department.

Her character, Brett, has become an integral part of the One Chicago universe, with appearances in both Chicago Med and Chicago P.D.

In addition to Sylvie Brett, Chicago Fire Season 12 also bid farewell to firefighter and Truck 81 member Blake Gallo (Alberto Rosende).

Gallo, who joined the series in Season 8, decided to move back to Michigan to be with his blood relatives and pursue a job with the Detroit Fire Department. This heartfelt departure allowed him to reconnect with family members he had never known.

The emotional scene featuring Gallo’s departure showcased the character’s growth and newfound sense of belonging.

Chief Wallace Boden (Eamonn Walker) supported Gallo’s decision and even helped him secure a position in Detroit.

The touching farewell reminded viewers of the close-knit bonds within Firehouse 51 and the personal growth experienced by the characters.

The departures of these beloved characters mark a significant shift in the show’s narrative.

Chicago Fire Season 12 promises to deliver more twists and turns as it explores the impact of these farewells on the remaining members of Firehouse 51.

Chicago Fire airs on Wednesdays at 9/8c on NBC and the next day on Peacock.
