So when he appeared on a Fox Sports show with a bloated face, everyone wanted to know what was up with him.
Lil Wayne’s swollen face on Fox Sports 1’s “Undisputed” show kickstarted speculations about his life. Some thought he was suffering from kidney failure, while others believed that the bloat was the result of him allegedly abusing Lean/ Sizzrup. Many also felt he was eating more or had some dental work done. No official reason has been given yet by his management.
Why Is Lil Wayne’s Face So Fat?
Lil Wayne appeared on Fox Sports 1’s “Undisputed” show to discuss sports and why Anthony Davis is one of his favorite players. But most people were more interested to know why his face was looking bloated.
Lil Wayne, whose real name is Dwayne Michael Carter Jr., has always been in the news for his slim physique. So, the sudden change got people talking about what could have gone wrong with his face.
Some thought that he could be suffering from some type of liver disease as he allegedly abuses Lean/Sizzurp, a codeine-promethazine and soda-based cough syrup mix. Many think so because he did mention the substance in his song “Just Lean.”
This substance is addictive and dangerous for the body as it causes seizures, respiratory issues, and liver damage.
But his fans speculated that the bloat was simply the result of him eating more or his age catching up with him. On the Lil Wayne subreddit, user MrSadism summarized it perfectly:
“I was wondering that too, either he stopped the drugs or he just starting to gain weight as he ages but it did happen pretty rapidly with the changes so probably drugs not really 100% sure it could be an underlying illness as well.”
However, others thought it could be something way more severe. Redditor CrabRagoonBoy speculated that the rapper, who has sold more than 120 million records globally, might be suffering from kidney failure. He said:
“One of my friends has kidney failure, I’m almost positive this is a form of what Wayne has, the fluid retention due to organ failure causes you to bloat, cheeks swell just like that. I wouldn’t be surprised if he was actually secretly going to dialysis a couple times a week.”
But others opined that the rapper, who has won 5 Grammy awards, didn’t look uncomfortable during the show. So, they were reluctant to believe the kidney failure speculation.
Others thought that he could have had some type of dental work done. After all, this isn’t the first time people have noticed his bloated cheeks.
He has suffered from poor health for a long time due to having a diamond-encrusted grill that covers his teeth. In 2010, MTV reported that he underwent “eight root canal procedures in one sitting.”
But the rapper hasn’t clarified the reason behind his swollen face.
