Chuck Schumer is currently trending online. Why? For a variety of reasons.
Some have taken offense at him for blasting former US President Donald Trump, while others think that he shouldn’t have talked only about anti-semitism.
Amid all of this commotion, many are asking- is he Jewish?
Yes, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) is Jewish. He confirmed this in an op-ed for the New York Times on November 29, 2023. He called himself “the highest-ranking Jewish elected official (in the US).”

Is Chuck Schumer Really Jewish?
Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) is Jewish. He confirmed this recently in an op-ed for The New York Times- ‘What American Jews Fear Most’ while calling out the growing trend of anti-semitism in the country.
Schumer wrote:
“Anti-semitism is a crisis in the country. As the highest-ranking Jewish elected official, I feel compelled to speak out about it. I’ll be giving a major address on it tomorrow.”
He also further explained that since the Israel-Palestine conflict began on October 7, 2023, the initial support has waned and has been replaced by “virulent anti-semitism.” Schumer penned:
“The solidarity that Jewish Americans initially received from our fellow citizens in the aftermath of October 7 has since waned, drowned out by other, more disturbing voices, even from some we considered allies, while hate crimes against Jews have skyrocketed.”
He further explained the current situation American Jews are facing in the nation:
“Today, too many Americans are exploiting arguments against Israel and leaping toward a virulent anti-semitism. The normalization and intensifying of this rise in hate is the danger many Jewish people fear most.”
Internet Reacts To Chuck Schumer’s NYT Op-Ed
Netizens are divided on the New York Times op-ed that Chuck Schumer penned on November 29, 2023.
Twitter/ X user @MerruX condemned him for not mentioning the rise in anti-muslim hate, saying:
“Schumers fails to mention any of the anti-Muslim/Arab hate crimes happening in New York. The doxing trucks going around targeting people for just being Pro Palestinians. He is using one victimhood to justify making others victims.”
While another user, @Arthurblakee, thanked him because his writing expressed his thoughts perfectly, saying:
“Thank you, Senator Schumer, for an article that clearly expresses my thoughts.”
But that’s just one side of it.
Some are discontent with the senator for trashing former US President Donald Trump. Chuck revealed that Trump once called him ‘Cryin’ Chuck Schumer.’
Also, some users like @CaurnNut are calling him out for his double standards:
“Chuck Schumer is giving a speech on anti semitism. I’ve got an idea Chuck, if you dislike bigotry and hate so much how about you apologize to President Donald Trump for all the persecution you have put him through. That’s rich, you, of all people giving a speech on hate!!!”
Overall, Chuck Schumer has now divided the American public online.
What do you think of Chuck Schumer? Do you believe his NYT op-ed is correct? Or does it show his double standards?
