Most of us do get comments on our looks, style, etc., and often, that’s enough to make us feel insecure. It’s the same for actors, too.
In fact, the insecurity is tenfold because looks are their bread and butter in their profession. However, sometimes the internet can be ruthless, as Zac Efron recently found out. Again.
But what happened to his face and jaw that made the trolls come out?
In 2013, Zac Efron lost consciousness when he slipped and cracked his chin on a granite fountain. After surgery, his jaw was wired shut. While working with a physical therapist, he found that his masseter muscles kept growing, which resulted in his current look with an enlarged jawline.

Zac Efron has a new film out, The Iron Claw. He is starring in the movie with Jeremy Allen White and Harris Dickinson, and the three are busy promoting it.
Since it’s an independent project, they can promote it as per the SAG-AFTRA guidelines even though the union is striking for better pay, among other things.
In an Entertainment Weekly interview, fans were busy watching Zac Efron more than listening to what he was saying. But it’s not because they were mesmerized by his face, but because they were weirded out by it.
One comment described his jaw as being that of a Lego man, while another said that he reminded them of Thanos. This isn’t the first time Efron’s face has been publicly scrutinized heavily.
In 2021, he appeared with scientist Bill Nye for a Facebook Watch of “Earth Day Musical,” and similar comments followed. Many accused him of Botox or plastic surgery gone wrong, but that isn’t the case.
The 36-year-old looks almost unrecognizable from a few years ago because of an accident that left his jaw broken. Mirror magazine reported in 2022 that more than a decade ago, in 2013, Zac broke his jaw after slipping in his home while running.
Efron explained that his chin hit a granite fountain, and he knocked himself out. When he regained consciousness, the actor realized that his chin bone was barely hanging off his face.
In the ensuing surgery, his jaw was wired shut. After that, he worked with a physical therapist and found that his masseter muscles kept growing to compensate for the injury.
He explained to Men’s Health magazine in 2022, “The masseters just grew. They just got really, really big.” But the criticism or trolling doesn’t get to him because he doesn’t even know about it.
Efron explained that he avoids social media and had no idea what was being said about him till his mother called him to ask if he had undergone plastic surgery. It’s a survival tactic for a man who has been under the spotlight since he was a teenager.
He also sagely said,
“If I valued what other people thought of me to the extent that they may think I do, I definitely wouldn’t be able to do this work.”
