Todd and Julie, the Chrisleys, are quite famous for starring in the reality television series Chrisley Knows Best, which has been running for nine years from 2014 to 2023.
The show would have probably been continued if it weren’t for Todd and Julie going to prison in January 2023. So, are they out of jail yet? And when will they be released?
According to the Federal Bureau’s ‘find an inmate’ portal, Todd Chrisley will leave the prison on December 23, 2032, while Julie Chrisley will be released on September 19, 2028. Reportedly, they both were sentenced to 12 and 9 years, respectively, but had their sentences shortened by two years each.
Why Did Chrisleys Go to Prison?
While many people are already well aware of why Todd and Julie have gone to prison, if you’re one of those unaware of the details, here’s why the couple are facing such harsh prison sentences.
The reality TV stars Todd Chrisley and Julie Chrisley were initially indicted in 2019 for several charges, including tax evasion and wire fraud. Apparently, the actors tried to hide their income from the television shows.
The couple reportedly began these frauds in 2007 and submitted fake documents and statements to get more than 30 million dollars in loans. They even sent a fabricated credit report to show false net worth to rent a home.
Although they were cleared of their charges in 2019, a thorough FBI investigation of three weeks in May 2022 proved the husband and wife guilty, handing them a combined prison time of 19 years.
While the husband, Todd Chrisley, was sentenced to 12 years at FPC Pensacola, the wife, Julie Chrisley, was sentenced to 9 years at FMC Lexington. However, through appeal, each of their sentences was reduced by two years, with them reporting to their respective prisons on January 17, 2023.
When Will Todd & Julie Be Released From Federal Prison?
Since the Federal Bureau makes it easier for normal people to access limited information related to the inmates through its official portal, their sentences were revealed.
Todd Chrisley, 55, located at Pensacola FPC prison, is scheduled to be released on December 23, 2032, which was two years less than his initial sentence, and depending on the social service he carries on inside, it could be further reduced.
Julie Chrisley, 50, located at Lexington FMC prison, is set to be released on September 19, 2028. She was initially sentenced to 7 years, but it was later reduced by two years, just like her husband.
Despite the couple serving their prison time for months, their attorneys, Jay Surgent and Alex Little, are planning to prove their innocence and claim to have substantial evidence.
They submitted new filings in July 2023, and an appeal could be accepted anytime or even be rejected. Meanwhile, their daughter, Savannah Chrisley, revealed how their parents are coping with prison life in a podcast. She said,
“I have so much hope and restored strength that I’m like, ‘This isn’t the end. Whether this appeal works or not, they’re still coming out with a story. We get to see them. For that, I am grateful because there are so many people that don’t get to see their loved ones since they are in different facilities.”
It seems they still have a chance to prove their innocence if they didn’t commit any of those fraudulent crimes, but if they fail to provide strong evidence during the appeal, the couple may really have to serve their full sentences.
