Although Star Wars’ third trilogy was disappointing, it did many things right, providing the franchise’s fans with a perfect drama, especially in Star Wars: The Last Jedi.
As the second movie in the trilogy, it was great, with a beautiful moment featuring Luke Skywalker and Leia Organa. However, fans are skeptical about what Luke gifted his sister, Leia, during that climax scene.
In Star Wars: The Last Jedi, Luke Skywalker arrives at a critical moment to save the rebellion troops from Kylo Ren’s First Order, and during their heartfelt reunion, he gifts a pair of gold dice belonging to Han Solo to Leia Organa. However, Luke was a Force projection of himself at the time, so he didn’t really give them to her; instead, it was a gesture.
What Does Luke Give to Leia in the Star Wars: The Last Jedi Movie?
In Star Wars: The Last Jedi, the rebellion consisting of Leia Organa, Po, and many others are trapped with no way out inside their emergency bunker while Kylo Ren leads an army to destroy it and put an end to the rebellion.
However, Luke Skywalker makes a dynamic entrance out of nowhere and meets Leia, gifting her with a pair of shiny gold dice that were previously seen hanging inside Han Solo’s Millennium Falcon in A New Hope.
Although Luke appears as a Force projection to distract Kylo Ren and his army while the rebel forces find their way out from the other side of the massive bunker, he gives Leia projected dice to show a nice gesture of how Han Solo still treasures her.
These dice were initially owned by Ovan, Han Solo’s father, before being passed on. He only parted with the dice in Solo: A Star Wars Story when he gave them to Qi’ra, his childhood love interest.
However, Qi’ra returns the dice to him three years later, and he uses them to win Lando’s freighter known as Millennium Falcon, which we see initially in A New Hope.
Apparently, these dice are a good luck charm for Han Solo, and he uses them often while gambling against other smugglers. However, the dice were nowhere to be seen in the following films and the Star Wars sequel trilogy until The Force Awakens.
Disney wanted to release merchandise of the gold dice, so they decided to include it in the third trilogy. Han Solo appears in The Force Awakens, and the dice are briefly shown, as well as his attachment to them.
While they are not the same dice used in A New Hope, Disney recreated them to look alike and provided fans with additional merchandise to their Star Wars collection.
Apart from the dice being a good luck charm, not much has been revealed, making the fans question whether the dice are really just ordinary items used for keepsakes.
Surely, the gold dice may just be a good luck charm, which Han Solo values a lot since he was also inspired by his father, and Luke giving them to Leia proves Han’s love towards her.
