Since the war between Israel and Palestine has been going on somewhere far from where you are right now, you would think that it wouldn’t affect us.
However, that is simply not true because the internet has made it incredibly easy for everyone to express their opinions on the ongoing war, leading to people who even support mass genocides.
Seth Crosby, an assistant professor at Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri, made controversial comments related to the ongoing Israel-Palestine war. He said Israel was cleansing Palestinians, which was a much-needed clearing, leading to allegedly getting fired from his position.
Who Is Seth Crosby, and What Did He Post?
Seth Crosby is an assistant professor at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis who works as the Director of Research Collaborations at the Department of Genetics.
According to his LinkedIn Page, he’s worked for Washington University for almost twenty years in several director roles, including Translational Research, Genome Technology Access Center, Partnerships and Alliances, and Research Collaborations.
Crosby recently took to X, and after seeing a tweet from @EMichaelJones1 saying, “Israel is engaged in the ethnic cleansing of Palestinians,” he replied how it is a much-needed cleansing.
He said in the comment, “It is a much-needed cleansing, yes, but not an ethnic one. Israel is not targeting humans.” He added, “I believe that rabid animals should be put down.”
While the tweets are nowhere to be found, given he has deleted them, several netizens on X have taken screenshots and reposted them several times in hopes that it will reach more people so they would take action against him.
However, Crosby later said he was referring not to Palestinian citizens but to the Hamas militants that assaulted the innocent people on October 7. Following this, Israel launched a counter-assault that resulted in the deaths of over 2,500 Palestinians.
While Hamas’ surprise attack took the lives of more than 1400 Israelis, their retaliation has been one of revenge since Israel also cut off food, medicine, and water to Gaza.
Later, Crosby wrote on X to clarify what he truly meant. Since his account was deleted, we will just post the text in his own words,
“I am so very sorry for the anger I have caused by my clumsy words. Israel is targeting Hamas, an organization that has taken the lives of thousands of Israeli citizens. I did not intend to imply that the deaths of the Palestinian people were in any way acceptable.”
Was Seth Crosby Fired From Washington University?
Before deleting his account from X, Seth Crosby also informed that he was fired from Washington University. However, the University’s spokesperson, Julie Flory, told news outlets that he wasn’t fired.
Nonetheless, they are conducting an internal investigation into Crosby’s intentions to say things about genocide casually. On the official website of Washington University, his bio was removed, but his name, position, and image were intact.
We’re currently unclear whether he was fired from the University, but seeing how the netizens reacted on X, it may happen anytime soon. Here are some notable reactions.
So, what do you think of Seth Crosby’s tweets? Do you believe he was truly referring to Hamas, or was it a clever lie to escape the current predicament?
