What Is Magnum P.I.? Recapping the Nostalgic ‘OP’ Series
History has so many happy and sad records from the 1980s on its pale rigged pages. People remember the era either for Budd Dwyer committing suicide during a conference or for one of the most versatile actors, Tom Selleck, playing baseball. In the same era, the iconic American series Magnum P.I. made its debut in 1980 and ran till 1988.
It was created by Donald P. Bellisario and Glen A. Larson, with a blend of action, drama, and humor. The story revolves around Thomas Magnum (portrayed by Tom Selleck), who is a former Navy SEAL, working as a private investigator, residing in the opulent guest house of the luxurious Robin’s Nest estate.
The investigator has two closest allies, who were also his close friends, Theodore “TC” Calvin (played by Roger E. Mosley) and Orville “Rick” Wright (played by Larry Manetti). TC was a Vietnam War veteran as well as a skilled helicopter pilot. Whereas Rick was the owner of the popular beachfront nightclub, The King Kamehameha Club.
The show’s success led to multiple awards, including Emmy and Golden Globe nominations. In fact, in 2018, “Magnum, P.I.” was rebooted while maintaining the spirit of the original. It was introduced with a fresh perspective and contemporary storytelling to a new generation of viewers.
What Happened to TC on Magnum P.I.?
The character TC was one of the most relatable to the audience of the series. A friend who is sick of his friend’s stupidity yet so involved in each affair. The role was played by Roger E. Mosley (1980- 1988) and Stephen Hill (2018-present).
Both actors presented their best roles in the shoes of Theodore “TC” Calvin. In fact, Roger E. Mosley, who played the role in the 1980s series, was a licensed private helicopter pilot in real life. Unfortunately, he died on August 7, 2022, at the age of 83.
Now, back to the question, what happened to TC on Magnum P.I.? In the 10th episode of Season 5, Theodore was shot twice in the chest by the mercenaries. The ‘Charlie Foxtrot’ team faced a brutal assault by mercenaries hired by Ahmed Hadid’s girlfriend.
Remarkably, he managed to survive the attack and was brought to the hospital by Shammy. When he regained consciousness, he was told by the doctor that he was paralyzed and wouldn’t be able to move his legs.
Doctors also expressed their concern about his recovery, revealing their uncertainty about whether he will fully recover or not. However, at the end of episode 11, he was able to move his toes, showcasing that he can be back on his toes soon.
