A wedding day is the most special moment for a woman. Now imagine two women sharing an auspicious day. It was a special milestone in their relationship, and their legion of followers were excited to see their favorite TikTok couple getting married.
Lunden Stallings and Olivia Bennett were considered TikTok sweethearts, who shared their relationship and more lifestyle and relatable content. The couple run a joint TikTok account, Lunden&Olivia, that has amassed over 703,000 followers.
Their much-anticipated wedding was the talk of the TikTok town, and the couple was thrilled to share their wedding pictures with their followers. But as their wedding pictures were developing, Lunden’s past was developing the darker facet of her character.
To give a brief context: the 2010s decade was one of the most problematic eras of social media. People were posting whatever came to their minds, which was one of the USPs for gardening followers then. The “influencers” went over the edge in the greed of engagement and popularity.
Stallings fell into the same category, taking the edgy-white-girl approach.
Lunden Stallings, a 26-year-old TikTok celebrity, recently tied the knot with her long-time girlfriend, Olivia Bennet. However, a Redditor posted screenshots dated from 2012-2014 that showed Stallings’s racist tweets, using the N-word from ten years ago. The TikTok star uploaded an apology video on her TikTok story. But netizens did not buy it, considering the gravity of the situation and that the story disappears after 24 hours.
Why Are Lunden Stallings’s Old Racist Tweets Going Viral?
Lunden Stallings and Olivia Bennett enjoy a considerable following who love the couple for their realistic depiction of a relationship. Over the years, the couple adopted the “healthy relationship” and “spreading positivity” aesthetics in their videos, earning them consistent engagement on their content.
When the couple announced their wedding, the TikTok lesbian community and their followers were brimming with joy, trending Lunder&Olivia on TikTok. Both were excited to share their wedding nuptials with their fans and proceed with their honeymoon.
Unbeknownst to them, Lunden’s past was unraveling behind the scenes. A Redditor posted a screenshot of Stallings’s tweets from 2012 to 2014. The blatantly racist tweets with the n-word shed light on the unknown side of the beloved TikToker.
Stallings received severe backlash from netizens, after which she posted her apology video on TikTok story.
Here are the key highlights of the story–
- “There’s been some tweets of mine that I learned about yesterday, back 10 to 12 years ago, that had resurfaced. That’s not who I am, who I was as a teenager.”
- “I just want to acknowledge and recognize that I am completely and utterly disgusted and ashamed and honestly embarrassed at how normal it was for me to speak that way on Twitter and for my friends and me to address each other that way or for me to sing along in rap songs.”
Here are the main issues with this apology–
- Stallings takes partial accountability for her actions, blaming it on the immaturity of a teenager. However, she was at an age where she should have known better.
- Secondly, these tweets are not just rap songs. She deliberately used the offensive word in her normal tweets as well.
Reddit And TikTok React To Luden Stallings’s Racist Tweets And Apology
A Reddit user pointed out the lack of accountability in her apology–“She was more than old enough to know better here, coupled with the fact that she had legit HUNDREDS of tweets dropping the N-word. And she’s deleting every comment on her social media asking about it. What a disgrace.”
More comments flooded in as the apology video went viral, viewed over 1.5 million times.
“I don’t understand the people saying “it was 10 years ago”… like she used the word over 100 times in tweets and called black people ashy and crusty.. that’s some deep seeded racism. you can’t convince me otherwise.”
“Did nobody else catch that one time on live someone commented lunden looked Arab and she not only pronounced it “ay-rab” but proceeded to get super defensive/insulted????”
“It’s so odd but I literally don’t see a single negative comment on any of their tiktoks or recent instas with people addressing this???”
“She’s definitely deleting comments. thats why i was so glad to see lesbiantiktokroom post this. itll get to the point where she cant continue censoring. honestly her doing so much to block it out makes it soooo much worse,”
“Okay so whoever told lesbiantiktokroom about this, thank you!!! this is finally getting the attention this deserves. sorry lunden but i think youre finally over. sucks to be an outed racist nowadays does it?”
“Okay devils advocate question (I am not trying to defend her actions AT ALL, I’m just curious of others perspectives) do you think she has changed from who she was 10 years ago (aka racist af), or do you think she’s still the same deep down? I’m only asking this because I know people can change and what not, but I also understand that she used the n-word quite frequently. I know she’s from the south (not saying that’s an excuse) and they are still super backwards there, but could she has potentially learned and grown? Like I said, I am not taking her side.”
“These tweets are too fucking much. I thought it was one or two tweets like writing song lyrics. This is horrible and actually racist. Saying we are “ashy” and “ugly .” I was a teenager in 2012-2014 and that was not acceptable. Maybe white people said it without us hearing, which I don’t think Lunden had black friends if she was tweeting ALLLLL THAT. Unless you’re black and have been called it multiple times TO YOUR FACE, you’ll never understand how this makes us feel, even when it was 10 years ago. She was in her late teens saying it yall, not 9 or 10 years old. This is too much and so disappointing.”
What are your thoughts on this case? Do you think Lunden Stallings deserves forgiveness, considering the tweets are from a decade ago?
