The American government is complicated, with many issues always lingering around, especially during election times with significant figures such as Donald Trump causing controversy everywhere.
However, Kevin McCarthy, the Speaker of the House belonging to the Republican Party, has set a record that no one has ever managed to do in American history.
Apparently, Kevin McCarthy was ousted from his position as the House Speaker when the votes of fellow Republican Party members supported Matt Gaetz’s effort to initiate this sudden procedure. The reason behind his removal is due to the fact that McCarthy wanted to avoid the government shutdown by seeking an 11th-hour deal this Saturday. Surprisingly, McCarthy was the first Speaker of the House to be voted out of office.

Why Was Kevin McCarthy Removed As the House Speaker?
The American government is basically divided between the Republicans and the Democrats, meaning there is always a constant issue arising between the two parties.
Kevin McCarthy’s removal arose from these lingering issues because every few years, America reaches a point where it has to shut down the government, as witnessed in the years 2011, 2013, 2018, and 2019.
These shutdowns usually occur due to many reasons, including debt-ceiling crises and if the funds are not enacted to the federal government. During the shutdown, the government ceases many non-essential operations to save funds.
For example, in 2013, the reduction in economic growth was tremendous, and only after shutting the government down did it return to normal.
So, basically, Kevin McCarthy, as the Speaker of the House, took responsibility for avoiding such crises, and as Matt Gaetz reported to the news outlets, McCarthy tried striking a deal with President Joe Biden in order to avert the crisis of debt-ceiling back in May.
Furthermore, he also tried to seal a deal to avoid the government shutdown during the 11th hour this Saturday, resulting in Matt Gaetz’s challenge to remove McCarthy from his position as the speaker.
Surprisingly, McCarthy has gotten more support from the Democrats rather than the Republicans, leading to his downfall as the Speaker of the House.
What Will Happen Now?
The House can’t be without a speaker, apparently, so they appointed Representative Patrick McHenry of the Republican North Carolina as the temporary speaker, who will further oversee the election of the new speaker.
The members of the Republican Party and Democrats will nominate and select a new speaker by the next week to fill the chair. However, Republicans have not yet given the name of the person they will be nominating for the position of the Speaker.
On the other hand, House Democrats have announced that Hakeem Jeffies, Democrat of New York, will be their choice of nomination, but given how the Republicans control the majority of the voting poll, it seems rather unlikely.
Kevin McCarthy also made it clear that he wouldn’t be running for the speaker’s position again, especially not after what happened when he wanted to do good for the government.
Despite everything that happened, Matt Gaetz believes he did the right thing, as McCarthy violated his position as a speaker by doing something he was not supposed to do, leading to his reluctant actions.
