Although Jujutsu Kaisen balances the gory and dark theme with adorable interactions between the main characters and their teacher, Gojo Satoru, it quickly turns the tables quite often.
In the Jujutsu Kaisen manga, the battle between Ryomen Sukuna and Gojo Satoru hinted at something unexpected: the death of Gojo. While many fans were devastated by the ending of Chapter 236, they raised many questions.
So, is Gojo really dead in Jujutsu Kaisen manga’s Chapter 236? Yes. Gojo Satoru is portrayed to be dead in the recent chapter. He’s seen meeting his deceased friends in the afterlife after being cut in half by Ryomen Sukuna, the King of the Curses, who used his Trump Card, Mahoraga.
But is there any possibility of avoiding this critical scenario in the story?
How Did Gojo Satoru Die in Jujutsu Kaisen Manga?
The latest development in Chapter 236 has brought the fight between Sukuna and Gojo to an end as he’s seen lying on the floor with only half the body intact. The decisive battle reached a critical point in Chapter 234 when Sukuna unleashed Mahoraga.
Once their battle had reached a turning point, everyone knew it would be hard for Gojo to turn the tables as Sukuna overpowered him, even with his Infinity technique that slowed the attacks down.
Sukuna prepares his Trump Card Mahoraga, which is among the strongest Shikigami in the world of Jujutsu Kaisen to counter Gojo’s Infinity. Mahoraga has a weird ability to analyze opponents’ domains and techniques.
Once Sukuna had been hit by an attack, it started analyzing Gojo’s skill, but the following attacks sped up the process of discerning his technique in the form of a blueprint, through which Sukuna broke past Gojo’s Infinity.
In simple terms, Mahoraga manipulated the cursed energy around Gojo until it found the weakness through the blueprint and then effortlessly broke its defenses, as its ability transcended the barrier of space and time, rendering Infinity useless.
The overwhelming ability of Mahoraga’s adaptation gave Sukuna room to inflict life-threatening injuries on Gojo, and subsequently, he cut him in half. Thus, the battle between Sukuna and Gojo has come to an end, leaving the seemingly lifeless body of Gojo on the ground.
Is It Possible for Gojo Satoru To Avoid His Death?
While it is an almost hopeless scenario, it is also possible to consider he may somehow get through the situation. Virtually any manga reader knows that Gege Akutami, the author of Jujutsu Kaisen, hates the character, but he could show some leeway for the sake of the story.
So, his survival is only guaranteed with his domain and healing abilities, which brings us back to Chapter 225, where Gojo was cut deep into his neck, but he was able to heal himself quickly.
Furthermore, Gojo is the most popular character in Jujutsu Kaisen, so it doesn’t make sense to kill him off this way, especially given his impact can only strengthen the upcoming battles in the story.
If the author is intent on bringing Gojo back from the death’s door, it is highly possible that the current scenario is a ruse, or he might consider resurrecting him in the future. After all, nothing is impossible in fiction, even though Japanese manga is notorious for tragic endings.
One thing that makes us believe that Gojo can survive the current predicament is the fact that he bid farewell to his deceased friends in the afterlife, which doesn’t make sense if he has given up on his life.
There is some mystery to the foreshadowing, and Gojo might have a trump card that he hasn’t shown to the audience yet, although it is improbable. Nonetheless, the outcome will only be revealed through Chapter 237, which will be released on September 28, 2023.
