Born on March 24, 1998, Damar Romeyelle Hamlin is an American football safety for the Buffalo Bills. The Buffalo Bills are one of the teams that play in the National Football League (NFL). He was born in McKees Rocks, Pennsylvania, U.S., and went to Central Catholic High School in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
From a young age, Damar was interested in playing football, and soon he joined the college football team at the University of Pittsburgh. Soon enough, Hamlin was selected for the Buffalo Bills in the 6th round of the 2021 NFL Draft. He spent his rookie time mostly as a backup player, but in 2022 he started his journey to the position of Safety.
Why Is Damar Hamlin Inactive?
On September 11, 2023, Mike Garafolo of NFL Network revealed that Damar Hamlin will not be active for the upcoming match of the Buffalo Bills against the New York Jets.
He tweeted, “#Bills S Damar Hamlin is expected to be inactive tonight vs. the #Jets in a numbers crunch in the defensive backfield, sources say. Hamlin will be a healthy inactive and could be back on the playing field for Buffalo in the coming weeks.”
Before this, Damar suffered a severe health issue and was almost on the brink of death. On 2 January 2023, during the match against the Cincinnati Bengals, Hamlin collapsed on the ground after tackling Tee Higgins. Damar collapsed on the ground and remained motionless at midfield, which was concerning enough. The paramedics and the team rushed towards him to assess his condition.
Damar was transported by ambulance to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center around 9:23 PM. He was reported to be in serious condition by the doctors, and later revealed that he suffered from cardiac arrest. Later, on January 9, 2023, Hamlin was released after being admitted for a week to be shifted to the Buffalo General Medical Center.
Hamlin was under medical care until March and supported the team from the bench. In April 2023, Buffalo Bills general manager Brandon Beane cleared that Damar is in better condition and can resume his game soon. It seems like the player is still suffering the effects. Damar is inactive again for the whole week. His return is still unclear, and the reason is unclear as well. But speculations say that it must be due to some health issues.
