It goes without saying that BTS is the biggest boyband in the world, with its immense influence on both East and West. With records like the most viewed YouTube music video in 24 hours and most streamed group on Spotify, they established themselves as the best K-pop group in history.
That being said, the members also released several single albums, which fans accepted merrily, leading to more individual achievements for the band. This year, though, the last to make his solo debut from the band is V, also known as Kim Tae-hyung.
Rather than being excited about V’s new album, LayoVer, fans are expressing disappointment for HYBE and Big Hit since they are not promoting his songs as with other members’ solo albums. The reason for this is currently unknown, but the unfair treatment has been in the wind for a while now.
So, what could have been the reason for V’s unfair treatment in the group? And why didn’t HYBE promote his songs ahead of the album’s release? Read on to find out.
Why Didn’t HYBE Promote V’s Solo Album, LayoVer?
LayoVer, the most-awaited single album of V, is slated to be released on September 8, 2023, but surprisingly, it received little to no promotion from HYBE and Big Hit, as well as fellow BTS members.
The management hasn’t shared any reason for the unfair treatment, but V has been promoting his content single-handedly through his social media and other variety shows.
Furthermore, HYBE hasn’t provided any exposure for the album as it did for other members over the past couple of years, and the official YouTube channel Bangtan TV, which frequently posts videos about solo songs and albums, hasn’t uploaded anything related to LayoVer.
While the reason is unknown for now, there are things that we cannot understand from the commercial perspective. It is highly possible that V is producing the album without the involvement of HYBE and Bangtan TV; thus, they chose not to promote them.
However, that doesn’t give the company the freedom to mistreat V, who is arguably one of the most popular K-pop artists, and surprisingly, it has been happening for months now.
V’s Mistreatment with Big Hit and HYBE
Assuming that HYBE and Big Hit have nothing to do with V’s album from a commercial viewpoint, why did they not advertise his other involvements, such as V attending the Broker movie premiere to show his support for his friend, Kang Dong-won and his representation of Vogue Korea?
There have also been several instances in the past few months, like not providing enough security during his airport travels, which enraged the fans and questioned the motives of Big Hit.
However, none of these are compared to the issue of malicious rumors that hit V during the 2022 Grammy Awards when his performance involved a picture of him smoking with Olivia Rodrigo.
Soon, the negative rumors elevated even though it was supposed to be a normal thing and damaged the idol’s image severely. Nonetheless, HYBE and Big Hit have done nothing to defend V, which shows their unfair treatment towards the beloved BTS member.
The whole situation seems like Big Hit and HYBE are biased (not in a good way) towards V, and while we do not know what happened between the two, it is not a way to treat a talented and hardworking artist like V.
