Special Ops: Lioness is a CIA drama from the pen of Yellowstone creator Taylor Sheridan. While the first season looks like another big television hit for Taylor Sheridan, pop culture enthusiasts are already beginning to wonder about its season 2.
Being a spy thriller, the eighth and final episode entitled “Gone Is the Illusion of Order,” brought a season of high-octane espionage action to a close.
Starring Zoe Saldaña, Morgan Freeman, Nicole Kidman, and Laysla de Oliveira, the series debuted as the streamer’s most-watched global premiere. “Special Ops: Lioness scored as the #1 new scripted series of the year on cable and one of the highest performers of all time on Paramount+,” said Chris McCarthy, CEO of Paramount Media Networks. With season 1 ending, it would be interesting to see how season 2 would unfold.
Will There Be Special Ops: Lioness Season 2?
Considering that the show’s debut scored a viewership record for Paramount, it will be a cash-grab opportunity for the makers. While Special Ops: Lioness season 2 is yet to be officially confirmed, these signs are enough for a season 2 as the previous season’s ratings have stayed strong throughout all eight episodes. However, it is surprising that Paramount+ is taking its time in making any renewal decisions, as it is one of its best shows to date.
Speaking to USA TODAY before the first season was aired, Zoe Saldana said she and Sheridan were already discussing second-season plans. “Taylor has assured me that Joe is definitely going to get down and dirty next season,” vowed the actress.
When Will Special Ops: Lioness Season 2 Release?
With no official announcement about the renewal of the season, it is hard to speculate on the release date of season 2. However, it can be assumed that Special Ops: Lioness season 2 might be released after the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes are resolved.
As Taylor Sheridan’s other series, Yellowstone Season 5 Part 2’s production stalled and 1923 Season 2 ran into complications amid the strike, it can be assumed that the makers could not give time to season 2.
What Will Be The Plot Of Special Ops: Lioness Season 2?
Nothing much has been teased about the new season of the series. However, it is being speculated that the construction of the title Special Ops: Lioness may hold a clue as to the future of the universe. The upcoming season might focus on a different operation and make it more like an anthology series moving forward.
Taylor Sheridan might lean into the Special Ops of the title from season 1, moving on from Lioness to a new top-secret project to fill in the title.
While the first season dealt with the real-life CIA operation known as Lioness, the new season could focus on a new agent and mission within the program. Notably, the creator loves to expand the universe through his stories, and it can be sensed that a new corner of his television empire might come out of this.

After having big names in Hollywood like Zoe Saldaña, Nicole Kidman, and Morgan Freeman in the first season, it would be interesting to see what might happen in season 2. If the new season continues the same storyline as the first, it can be speculated that these actors will be a part of the show.
However, as Zoe already told USA Today that she had a conversation with Taylor Sheridan about season 2, her chances of reprising the role are high.
