Recently, CMT has been under fire for its recent silent face-off with Jason Aldean, with fans not happy with the network and its recent decision with respect to Aldean’s new song. With the current controversy, there has been news circulating that Hank Williams, one of the board members of the network, has decided to resign.
Since this news broke out, fans have been trying to trace the truth behind it. If you need to know its authenticity, too, keep on reading!
Did Hank Williams Jr. Really Resign from CMT?
No. Hank Wiliams did not resign from CMT.
It all started after a page on Facebook claimed that the board member of the network had voluntarily left his position following the beef with Jason Aldean. According to the Facebook page, Williams’s decision was in solidarity with the artist, “I’m stepping down from my position at CMT effective immediately,” said Williams, “I support free speech and my good friend Jason Aldean. There’s no way I can, in good conscience, continue offering them my services.”
However, it was later learned that the page that published this excerpt is known for its fictional, fake news.
“Everything on this website is fiction. It is not a lie and it is not fake news because it is not real. If you believe that it is real, you should have your head examined. Any similarities between this site’s pure fantasy and actual people, places, and events are purely coincidental and all images should be considered altered and satirical,” the website stated.
For the unversed, Hank Williams Jr is a singer-songwriter. He is the son of country musician Hank Williams and the father of musicians Holly Williams and Hank Williams III, and the grandfather of Coleman Williams.
What Happened With CMT?
CMT has, however, been facing backlash ever since its decision to back out from Jason Aldean’s latest single, ‘Try That in a Small Town,’ which became an epicenter of controversies soon after its release.
Following the backlash that the song promotes racism and lynching and is based on violence, many accused Aldean of wrongly picturing the small town in the name of trying to evoke a sense of connection with its people.
Soon, CMT decided to stop playing the song under its network, thinking it was only justified owing to the negative uproar the song created initially after its release. However, fans and supporters of the artist were quick to voice for Aldean, stating that they found no such violence perpetuated in the song.
Even Aldean refuted the allegations, stating that the interpretations that people have taken from his song were ‘dangerous’ and that the song doesnt support or promote violence in any form.
What Did Jason Aldean Say?
Despite the criticism, the musician has stated on Twitter that the song is not intended to insult or promote violence and that it does not address topics like race or the “Black Lives Matter” movement.
Aldean said that the lyrics had been taken “too far” by the audience and that it was truly “dangerous.” The musician continues to believe that his song does not encourage or support any violence or hatred directed against any race or person of color, as has been claimed.
His statements made it evident that somewhere, the lyrics had been misinterpreted, and the video’s whole theme had been twisted by fans who failed to understand its real meaning.
Even his fans have strongly stood by his side, stating that songs with much more violence and vulgarity have not faced any backlash, but Aldean’s songs hardly did any harm to anyone.
