Carlee Russell, a 25-year-old nursing student from Alabama, confessed to having been kidnapped; however, on Monday, her attorney Emory Anthony shared her client Carlee was never kidnapped and that it was a lie.
“There was no kidnapping on Thursday July 13. My client did not see a baby on the side on the road,” Anthony said.
After the incident that left many baffled, the Hoover police are said to be involved in talks with Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office, discussing the possible charges that can be pressed on Carlee for her misconduct.
Will Carlee Russell Go to Jail?
As of now, there have been no charges pressed against the 25-year-old. Hence, it is least likely that Carlee will be going to jail anytime soon.
For now, there are been no charges pressed on her. “We will announce those charges when, and if, they are filed,” the Hoover police informed.
However, based on the sequence of events and what her attorney has admitted over the last couple of days, Carlee might be charged with false reporting to the Law Enforcement authorities for falsely reporting an incident that never occurred in the first place.
It is by the word of law, under the State, that intentionally lying or spreading false information to Law Enforcement authorities is a crime and is considered a ‘class A misdemeanor.’ Carlee will therefore be, subjected to being pressed on these charges.
What Happened to Carlee Russell?
Carlee Russell, on 13th July, called up the 911 emergency, informing them that she was abducted. According to the 25-year-old nursing student, she was apparently abducted in Alabama after she spotted a toddler at Interstate 459 South.
In her 911 recording, Carlee admitted to being kidnapped by a man when she was about to help the stranded toddler; she was also on a phone call with one of her relatives. It was after this, when she lost contact with her relative, that she was kidnapped by a man, who, according to Carlee, appeared behind a tree.
Later, the 25-year-old was blindfolded and taken to a distant place where according to her, the kidnapper asked her to undress.
This didn’t last long as Carlee magically returned her home within the next 49 hours, which revoked the mystery around her kidnapping. Carlee is described as having escaped from the place she was kidnapped, as she found her way back to her home through the woods.
More information about what exactly happened in those 49 hours is yet to be recorded from Carlee, the Hoover police stated.
Did Carlee Stage Her Kidnapping?
That’s what her browser search history suggests! The Alabama police authorities said in a press conference that upon investigating Carlee’s mobile phone, they found a series of suspicious internet searches a day before her abduction.
After a careful investigation of her cell phone and work computers, it was found out that she had searched for “Amber Alerts,” she even looked up for booking a bus ticket from Birmingham to Nashville and searched “how to take money from a register without being caught.” She also took reference to her kidnapping by watching the movie “Taken.”
While this only makes the entire case more confusing, it is unknown as yet why Carlee staged her own kidnapping, as she even refused to be interviewed to share more about this.
The police are investigating more on her false allegations and the potential charges to be pressed on the 25-year-old; get all the latest updates on this story on Averagebeing.
