Adam, Jack, and Ryan Metzger are three brothers who form the indie pop group AJR. They have established a solid reputation among the public thanks to their varied and genre-defying music.
The initials of the three brothers are used to create the band’s moniker, AJR. They begin writing, producing, and mixing their music in the living room of their flat before transferring to their studio.
They are well-known for their popular songs, including “I’m Ready,” “Sober Up,” “Burn the House Down,” “Way Less Sad,” “100 Bad Days,” “Weak,” “World’s Smallest Violin,” and “Bang!” 2019 saw the release of their third album, Neotheater, which debuted at number eight on the Billboard 200 list and peaked at the top of the Official Top Rock Albums chart.
Did AJR Dad Die?
On July 1, the band tweeted they would cancel their upcoming July shows, saying, “For a year now, our Dad has been getting sicker and sicker.” Later, the trio took to their Twitter handle to share the saddening news of the demise of their father.
“We were gonna wait ’til the album came out, because it felt so strange to release a song like this on its own, but after seeing the outpouring of love for our Dad, we decided this was the right time,” AJR wrote on their Instagram Story. As their father, Gary, battled through his illness, the band released a song called “God is really real.”
“We wrote this song when this all started, and we want to be as real and true and honest as possible for the people that have been there for us the most,” AJR continued adding that they filmed the video in the hospital and ended with, “This is our song, ‘God is Really Real.’ Love you guys.”
Why Did AJR Cancel the Summerfest Show?
The band took to their Facebook account some time back and shared with fans that they would have to cancel their July concerts at the Summerfest at Milwaukee and fans would be refunded. The shows had to be canceled; they were initially slated to take place on July 6 as the headliner concert and on July 8 as Imagine Dragons’ support act.
“Hey guys, we want to be really honest with you about what’s going on in our lives right now. For a year now, our Dad has been getting sicker and sicker,” they wrote alongside photos that featured special moments they shared with their father over the years.”It’s been a horrible, insane, scary, beautiful year, and in the short future, it feels like our time with Gary might soon be over.”
AJR also appreciated their supporters’ patience and encouragement throughout that trying time.
AJR Dad Gary’s Illness
The band so far has decided to keep their father’s illness anonymous and hasn’t officially shared anything about Gary’s illness. However, they did inform their fans of Gary’s prolonged illness, stating that the trio wishes to spend more time with their father now that he’s health is detrimental.
“We’re all lucky to have had the best Dad ever and to have known such a caring, generous, loving human being. Love you guys so much, and speak soon.” AJR wrote on their Facebook.
More updates on AJR’s upcoming event are awaited.
