Murders and murderers are confounding to many, and the cases they are involved in are even more so. After all, the rise of Crime Podcasts can be attributed to the urge everyone has to play detectives and find out how a murder happened and who did it.
In the case of YMV Melly, the general audience and his fans are trying to determine just that. Did YNW Melly, aka Jamell Demons, actually kill his childhood best friends and YNW crew members?
Anthony “Sakchaser” Williams, Christopher “Juvy” Thomas Jr., and Jamell Demons were part of the YNW crew. On Oct. 26, 2018, Anthony and Christopher were shot dead during a drive-by shooting. In 2019, Police arrested Demons for allegedly staging the shooting.
The rapper has maintained his innocence, but the prosecutors are suspicious and think that he is the one who killed his friends. If the jury agrees with the evidence presented, Demons will be in serious trouble, to say the least. So what is the truth?
YNW Melly, also known as Jamell Demons, isn’t dead and hasn’t been declared innocent by the Florida court, where the trial continues. He has been charged with the first-degree murder of Anthony “Sakchaser” Williams and Christopher “Juvy” Thomas Jr., his childhood best friends and YNW crew members. Demons has maintained his innocence. Trial results are awaited.
Did YNW Beat the Case? Was He Proven Innocent?
YNW Melly, aka. Jamell Demons hasn’t been declared innocent in the murder case. The famous rapper pleaded ‘not guilty’ to the murder charges against him. The musician has been accused of planning the drive-by shooting of YNW crew members and best friends Anthony “Sakchaser” Williams and Christopher “Juvy” Thomas Jr., along with his co-defendant YNW Bortlen, on Oct. 26, 2018.
Investigators reported that Christopher and Anthony were with Demons and Cortlen Henry post a studio session. They presented surveillance footage showing all four of them in a car. It was there that they were shot and murdered. Police said Henry and Demons claimed they were victims of a drive-by shooting. But prosecutors have argued that Demons shot and killed his two friends.
Jamie Demons-King, YNW Melly’s mother, has been trying to ensure her son’s freedom and has been in touch with his fans. On the other hand, the mother of one of the victims, 19-year-old Christopher Thomas Jr., said they want justice. She said (via NBC Miami):
“My firstborn. He was everything to us. And today we (are) here for his trial, and it’s sad, you know, it’s hurtful. We both are taking it hard. It’s been a long process. It’s almost four years, going on five. I think it’s about time for us to get justice. He (Demons) came to pick my son up that night, and I never saw or heard from my son again.”
Evidence is currently being presented in court, and the jury will soon decide if YNW Melly, aka. Jamell Demons committed those murders. This is the first case getting heard after Ron DeSantis, the Florida governor, signed a law lowering the death sentence threshold. So now, if eight jurors agree to the death penalty out of the twelve, the decision will be carried out.
YNW Melly’s lawyer, David Howard, called the investigation misleading and faulty because the prosecutors are just guessing and don’t have concrete evidence at hand against his client. HITC reported him saying:
“After four years of investigation, the state comes and says, ‘Hey, he killed two of his best friends.’ And you’re wondering why, and their answer is, ‘Uh, I dunno.’ That’s the first indication that they’re just guessing and don’t know what they’re talking about. What they will bring you is a case that is riddled with reasonable doubt, that is founded on an incompetent and incomplete investigation and exercised poor judgment at every turn. The state cannot prove beyond a reasonable doubt the allegations they have made, and there’s a reason for that.”
