Nothing is more potent than the clout behind a person. YNW Melly, the 24-year-old rapper, is gaining massive support from his fans before his trial. Amidst the #FreeYNWMelly social campaign, some rumors have shaken the fandom.
Let us navigate his trial and debunk the rumors.
Who Is YNW Melly?
Jamell Maurice Demons was born on 1st May 1999 to his 14-year-old mother, who was in ninth grade when she gave birth.
His first run-in with the law was when he was just 16 years old, charged with three counts of aggravated assault and one count of discharging a firearm in public when he fired a gum around three high school students.
Two years after his lock-up, he was inspired to write “Murder on My Mind,” which went on to become his most famous single till date. It went Gold in 2017 and later went platinum in March 2019. And just last year, the song was certified six times multi-platinum.
He formed his crew with YNW– Young N***a World, or a more censored abbreviation with Young New Wave. This included his long-time friends Anthony Williams (YNW Sakchaser), Chris Thomas Jr. (YNW Juvy), and Cortlen Henry (YNW Bortlen).
He has since then collaborated with hip-hop giants like Kanye West, Young Thug, Kodak Black’s brother John Wicks, Frdo Bang, Lil B, and more.
All the while, he still had run-ins with the law for possession of a weapon by a convicted felon and marijuana. But he continued to release albums in 2018.
Why Was YNW Melly Arrested?
On October 2018, two of his friends, Anthony Williams (21) and Christopher Thomas Jr.(19), were shot and killed. Florida police reported they were last seen in Eastern Fort Lauderdale at around 3:20 a.m. They arrived at the Memorial Hospital Miramar around 4:35 a.m. with multiple gunshot wounds, albeit pronounced dead before that.
YNW Melly took to his social media account to grief over his loss–
“They Took My Brothers From Me Over Jealousy. I know y’all watching over me. it’s #ynw4l @ynwsakchaser1 @ynwjuvy for Life, and after, they wanna see me break down and stop or in jail or a box, but my friends still need me, they parents need me, they family need me till we meet again my twins, my slimes #thankyouallforyourprayers”
This genius interview of him explaining the lyrics of Murder on My Mind went viral for one particular second when he looked right into the camera and said, “I am not a human murderer.” (time stamp– 4:40)
After almost a year, police allege that YNW Melly was the one who killed his friends and tried to stage it as a drive-by shooting.
He is earnest about his innocence, as mentioned in his deleted Instagram post–
“Unfortunately, a lot of rumors and lies are being said but no worries god is with me.”
Fact Check: Is YNW Melly Alive?
While he awaits his trial, his name is again surrounded by vile rumors. Just a few hours before, someone triggered the internet posting that YNW Melly had passed away. However, these rumors are entirely false, and he is very much alive and ready for the trial.
What Is the Death Penalty for YNW Melly?
Under the Floridan law, if proven guilty, YNW Melly could face the death penalty for the gruesome murders.
However, Broward Circuit Judge Joh Murphy has lowered the threshold for capital punishment. He issued the deciding vote to be 8-4 rather than a unanimous vote for his verdict.
Did YNW Melly Win The Trial?
Jamell’s mother, Jamie King, took to his Instagram to announce that the trial would commence on 5th June.
But the Blackroommedia.com and Miami Herald have reported that the rapper’s trial is set to begin on 20th June.
YNW Melly has not yet won the trial, but he sure does have outpouring support from fans who believe he is framed.
