Playing Five Nights At Freddy’s felt like a requiem for a dream, where your childhood memory of happy meals and fluffy characters turns into an adult’s nightmare of absolute horror. This game completely redefined the horror genre with minimal gory effects while retaining the agonizing fear of the unknown.
The original creator of the game, Scott Cawthon, incepted the idea after his previous game, Chipper & Sons Lumber Co., was criticized because the main character looked like a scary animatronic animal.
Animatronics is an interesting way to bring any character to life. Several amusement parks have incentivized this technology to create life-like creatures. Plus, it gives the creator the artistic freedom to design original characters.
Scott harped on this concept that animatronic character is scarier because one does not suspect an inanimate object to haunt you at night. He created the characters and settings inspired by the children’s favorite hangout, Chuck E. Cheese.
After years of traumatizing fun for gamers, the video game is finally developed into a full-length feature film.
FNaF Official Trailer
The trailer reveals the main protagonist, Mike Schmidt, will be played by Hunger Games fan-favorite Josh Hutcherson. The premise of the original story is quite simple but very effectively instills terror. The story starts when a new night guard is appointed for security at Freddy’s. However, he soon realizes that the innocent-looking place is not what it looks like.
The guard has to navigate through the night with his light torch or any other means of light to ensure he is not caught by the hidden and haunted animatronic. Five Night At Freddy’s first version features four main anthropomorphic mascot characters: Freddy Fazbear, Bonnie, Chica, and Foxy, the Pirate.
The trailer shows glimpses of what to expect regarding gore, and fans are not complaining. It also shows a group of kids, making the storyline even more interesting.
What Would Be The Rating Of The FNaF Movie?
The trailer depicts the obvious horror genre of the movie. It also shows a “Saw” series-like torture sequences. This leads us to believe that the creators have not shied away from the severity of the terrifying scenes. Generally, such movies get a PG-13 rating which is normally unrestricted, implying that it is not suitable for children under 13 and parental guidance is required. Also, movie production houses want to make a profit, so PG-13 will at least get them more eyeballs on the film.
Some fans also pointed out that FNaF games never explicitly showed the inflicted violence; it always implied what was happening when the screen turned dark. The jumpscares involve the character suddenly popping out when least expected, denoting that the player is killed.
Besides, it would be interesting to see how they would develop the plot surrounding the “Stephen King” type of setting.
