The past several years have been an absolute roller coaster ride for DC fandom, and things may turn for the better as Warner Bros hires James Gunn and Peter Safran. They have been hired to lead the newly launched DC studios.

Since the news broke out, it has been doing rounds on all social media pages, and some are hailing that the DC films have found its Kevin Feige, who ushered in the age of MCU as we know it today. Gunn and Safran, together, will be in charge of managing all of Warner Bros.’s DC-focused initiatives in cinema, television, and animation.

Safran will oversee the business and production side of the studio, while Gunn will concentrate on the creative side. The two executives will directly work under David Zaslav, Warner Bros. Discovery chief. In a recent statement, David Zaslav said – “Their decades of experience in filmmaking, close ties to the creative community, and proven track record thrilling superhero fans around the globe make them uniquely qualified to develop a long-term strategy across film, TV, and animation, and take this iconic franchise to the next level of creative storytelling.”

Warner Bros. was looking for a person to replace Walter Hamada, who recently stepped down after a bitter spat with the studios – which began with pulling out the plug on the Batgirl movie. The studio almost signed Dan Lin, but the talks eventually fell out, leaving Warner Bros. at an impasse of looking for a new boss again.

Current projects under work, like Todd Phillip’s Joker and Matt Reeves Batman, would be left untouched and uninterrupted. However, all the upcoming projects will be under the new studio’s banner.

One of the more esteemed minds in the comic book movie industry is Gunn. He has spearheaded projects like Guardians of the Galaxy with Marvel Studios, The Suicide Squad, and Peacemaker for the DC universe.

In a joint statement, Gunn and Safran said, “We look forward to collaborating with the most talented writers, directors, and actors in the world to create an integrated, multilayered universe that still allows for the individual expression of the artists involved. Our commitment to Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Harley Quinn, and the rest of the DC stable of characters is only equaled by our commitment to the wonder of human possibility these characters represent. We’re excited to invigorate the theatrical experience around the world as we tell some of the biggest, most beautiful, and grandest stories ever told.”

The long search has finally ended; the studio might have hit a home run with their new bosses. What do you think? Did Warner Bros. finally find their “Kevin Feige-like” figure?

Nikhil is a business graduate from Amity Business School and is a tech freak. With a specialization in marketing, he has worked for various advertising agencies and helped in copywriting and content writing for start-ups and large-scale businesses. His first encounter with the pop culture surrounding anime was way back in the early days of high school when he stumbled upon a One Piece manga. And the rest was history, as binge-watching anime series and manga has become a norm for him, which sometimes leads to debates on the deepest depths of Reddit. You can catch him ranting about FIA rules, or if you want to break the ice, talk about comics, games, movies, and practically anything from geopolitics to automobiles; his attention is pretty easy to get. Happy reading and Sayonara!
