The key visual highlights the main character, Frieren, posing with her staff in hand and the moon covering most of the background.
The story focuses on the adventures of an Elven mage named Frieren, who has restored order and balance in the world after defeating the Demon King during her 10-year quest. Her party comprised the human hero named Himmel, the courageous dwarven warrior Eisen, and the human priest Heiter. The group separated after witnessing a meteor shower together, which occurs every 50 years. Promising to meet up with her old mates during the next Era Meteors, Frieren leaves in search of greater magical knowledge.
Half a century later, the Elven mage returns to her companions, who have since aged a lot. Himmel passes after the reunited group gaze at the meteor shower, which becomes their final adventure. Frieren is resentful of the fact that she didn’t bother to learn more about the self-proclaimed human hero while he was alive. She begins caring for a war orphan named Fern, a first-class wizard. Fern was rescued and later adopted by the priest Heiter who died due to his advanced age.
Eisen, the dwarf, refuses the Elven mage’s request to go for a new adventure, even though he is the only surviving comrade of the heroic party. Stark decides to accompany Frieren on her journey to the resting place of the souls located in the North of the capital. Due to Frieren’s long life span, the story is centered around how she comes to terms with the passing of her old companions after gaining new ones.
The legendary Wizard Flamme is a crucial character in the story. Though her existence has been subjected to skepticism, she is the one who located the lone survivor of the massacre of an Elven village, i.e., Frieren.
The student of the Elven wizard Serie then decides to raise the female protagonist as her apprentice and instruct Frieren on how to preserve the element of surprise to eliminate enemies by using concealment to her advantage. Sein is a village monk who is defined by his vices, i.e., cougars, alcohol, gambling, and cigarettes; he also becomes a trusted comrade of Frieren during her journey to the North.
Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End was conceptualized by Kanehito Yamaga and drawn by Tsukasa Abe. The serialization kicked off in Shogakukan’s Weekly Shonen Sunday on April 28th of 2020. The English version of the manga series was published on November 9th of 2021 via Viz Media.
Till now, information regarding the studio in charge of animation, the staff, and the voice cast hasn’t been revealed.
