However, the author recently disclosed one of the anime’s four planned endings to his fans. Why did he do it, though?
On November 20, 2023, Yoshihiro Togashi, the mangaka of Hunter x Hunter, revealed in a Japanese show that he has planned four endings for the manga and disclosed the last ending as he fears passing away due to deteriorating health conditions.
What Happened to Yoshihiro Togashi and Why Did He Reveal Hunter x Hunter’s Ending?
Hunter x Hunter is one of the best Shonen stories with a massive world-building almost rivaling One Piece, but nobody likes it when the ending is spoiled.
So, Yoshihiro Togashi made a clever decision to create multiple possible endings and choose the best of the bunch. However, only three out of four were approved by Weekly Shonen Jump, so he decided to disclose the fourth one to the readers.
Apparently, the manga has been on a hiatus since 2018 and only resumed in October 2022, but the author is still facing health problems, including back and hip pain, which is holding him back.
Creating manga takes a massive toll on both the physical and mental body because the authors often work at least 16 hours per day to get the weekly chapters out, so their health is bound to get worse each year.
In fact, in 2021, the legendary mangaka Kentaro Miura, who created the manga that is known as Godfather of Dark Fantasy, Berserk, passed away without finishing his life’s work.
So, Yoshihiro Togashi also feels the same way, since for years, he faced severe back problems that left him on his bed, but he is somehow back on his feet.
According to the mangaka, he wants to finish the manga before he experiences another severe health problem, but fearing the worst possibility, he disclosed one of his planned endings to the readers.
What Was the Hunter x Hunter Ending That the Mangaka Revealed to Fans?
As opposed to what we would expect from the Hunter x Hunter ending, Yoshihiro Togashi has actually revealed a simple and sweet conclusion. While the initial three endings are undisclosed, here’s how the fourth one ends.
Several years after Gon becomes one of the most renowned hunters in the world, Jin, a little girl who holds a fishing rod beside a lake, waits to catch the lake lord, just like Gon did in the first chapter.
Seeing their daughter’s excitement for adventure, the father worries that she may one day leave the island and become a hunter just like her grandpa, Gon, but the mother reassures her that she will be inheriting their place instead of exploring the world and facing constant dangers.
It was also revealed that Gon has married Noko and started a family but left just like his dad, Gin, making sure his family stays safe on the island. The scene ends with Jin celebrating the hunt with the entire village while a figure watches them from far away (most likely Gon).
